You can use an AI chatbot without an account. Duck.ai and Brave’s Leo assistant let you chat without signing up, and on-device apps such as Personal LLM need no account at all because the model runs on your phone. Skipping the sign-up keeps your chats from being tied to your email or phone number. It doesn’t make you anonymous, though: a cloud service still receives your messages and sees your connection unless it takes steps to hide it.
Why use AI without an account? #
An account turns a chatbot into a history of you. Every question is stored against your email, and often your phone number and payment details. Skipping the account means:
- No profile. Your questions about a rash, a debt or a breakup aren’t filed under your name.
- No history on a server that can be breached, reviewed or subpoenaed as your conversations.
- No phone number verification, which many services use to limit sign-ups and which ties your chats to a real identity.
- No marketing email.
The trade-off is that you lose saved history, settings and, often, access to the best models.

Duck.ai #
DuckDuckGo’s usage-limits page confirms Duck.ai is free to use with a daily limit, and no account is needed. Its privacy page says chats aren’t stored by default, metadata like your IP address is removed before your prompt goes to the model provider, and providers agree not to train on your conversations. Recent chats are saved on your device, not DuckDuckGo’s servers.
Brave Leo #
Brave says on its Leo page that “no account or login is required,” that Leo doesn’t retain or share chats or use them for training, and that it doesn’t collect identifiers that can be linked to you, such as your IP address. You need the Brave browser to use it.
Mainstream chatbots without logging in #
Some big chatbots let you try a limited version without signing in. That hides your name, but the company still stores and processes what you type under its usual policies, and you can’t reach the privacy settings that only exist inside an account. What about “decentralized” or crypto AI? #
Some projects promise private AI by running models across a network of independent computers and replacing accounts with crypto wallets. It sounds more private than it often is. A wallet address can be a permanent identifier, especially once it’s linked to an exchange. And your prompt still has to be processed on someone’s machine, sometimes a stranger’s, with less clear rules about logging than a company bound by privacy law.
A blockchain can prove who paid for what. It can’t stop the computer running the model from reading your message. The only way to be sure no one else reads it is to run the model yourself.
The only option with nothing to link: on-device AI #
An on-device AI app downloads a model file to your phone and runs it there. There’s no account because there’s no server to log in to.
Personal LLM works this way. Open it, pick a model that fits your phone, download it once, and chat. Your chats, the photos you ask about and the documents you attach never leave the phone. The model download comes straight from Hugging Face, and after that the app works in airplane mode. The free version shows ads from Google AdMob while you’re online; on iPhone you can decline tracking so ads are non-personalized, and offline no ads load at all.

How to use AI more anonymously #
- Use a tool that needs no account, from the list above.
- Keep identifying details out of your prompts. Swap names for roles and round off numbers.
- Use a private browser window for web chatbots, so cookies from your other browsing don’t follow you in.
- Consider a VPN if the service doesn’t hide your IP address. The VPN provider then sees your traffic instead, so pick one you trust.
- Move sensitive questions to an on-device app, where there’s no one on the other end at all.
